Minutes of the AGM held on Tuesday 4th February 1014 at the Hesketh Tavern at
7.30p.m.
MEMBERS PRESENT;
Steve Barratt/Kevin Barlow/Steve Costello/Steve dough/Vince Grolla/Frank
Fallen/John Fletcher/Geoff Fanning/ Chih Hu/Steve Latham/ Peter Manning/
Steve Rimmer/Brian Simpson/ Andrew Shepard/Craig Stack/ and David Stack.
APOLOGIES
The secretary David Stack opened the EGM/AGM with a breakdown of the
Requirements of Toffs Society since the numbers were down over the past couple of
years and requested views of the members regarding the future and viability of the
society.
There was considerable discussion on these matters and various suggestions as to
how Toffs might operate in the future/ including a more relaxed attitude to formal
dress after each event; a change of the regular venues and perhaps meeting during
the week occasionally/ and events with no evening meal and perhaps just a
sandwich and a drink. It was suggested that a levy of £10.00 per event be
introduced to encourage members to turn up which would be offset against the
cost of each event when the member turned up/ or otherwise remain in the
society's accounts.
It was a tribute that so many members turned up for this meeting/ and that the
future of the society seemed to be on a more sound footing.
MIN UTES OF THE LAST MEETING.
The minutes of the last meeting were read approved and signed.
Proposed; Steve Barratt
Seconded; JohnFIetcher
TREASURERS REPORT
The treasurer Frank Fallon reported that there were n paid up members six country
members and two honorary members making a total of 19 Members. There were
six members that had not renewed their subscription. He gave a breakdown of the
accounts and because of the few venues there had been no major subsidies this
year and in view of the closing Bank balance/ and in light of discussion previously
regarding other suggestions form the members/ proposed that there be no
subscription required this year.
Proposed; Vince Crolla
Seconded; Steve Rimmer
MATCH SECRETARYS REPORT
Match secretary Vince Crolla proposed keeping the handicap system in its normal
and acceptable form/ since it was obviously working well. Because Player of the
year is decided from four out of five recorded scores/ and since we only played four
events and only two people played in all four events ( pay attention now there will be questions afterwards), the player of the year with 101 points was Chih Hu. It was recorded that the runner up ( but who remembers the runner up) was John Gregory.
VEN UES AND ANN UAL TOFFS TRIP
In light of the discussions during the evening Dave Stack suggested that since he
had not made any provisional bookings he would look at various venues on either
Wednesday/Thursday or Friday, and with selected formats regarding the dress
code and eating arrangements. He suggested a price of £45.00 across the board for
each event.
It was suggested that the Toffs Trip away be in early June and possibly on links
courses in Northern France or Belgium traveling by Eurotunnel, rather that
flying.
Proposed; Craig Stack
Seconded; Geoff Fanning
ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
As in previous years there were no nominations and the existing officers were welcomed with applause. ( I think)
CAPTAINS HANDOVER
Our Captain Steve Costello, handed over the reponsibility to his brother Ray Costello who said that he would like to help to keep the Toffs Society strong and that he would do his best for the coming year.
CAPTAIN ELECT.
The Captain Elect is John Fletcher.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS.
Dave Stack thanked the sponsors during the year for their considerable assistance in the running of the society/and mentioned that perhaps the time had come not to impose such a financial burden on them. However since we already have two sponsors in the form of Captains Day Sponsors this matter will no doubt come up at the next AGM.
With a break for drinks and a buffet the meeting closed at 9-3opm
